Initiatives

Bron Taylor has led a number of initiatives investigating nature-human relationships. He instigated and became director of a faculty initiative to create a program in Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. As Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Religion and Nature, he orchestrated contributions from 520 contributors from around the world, and after its publication, developed the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture, to continue the inquiry. He also led scholars from more than two dozen countries in the formation of the International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture, and was elected as its founding President, serving in that capacity from 2006-2009. At the University of Florida, Taylor received two Metanexus Institute grants to disseminate and prompt research in the areas of religion, science, and the future.

Taylor is involved in a number of other scholarly programs and initiatives, including CERES 21, a research initiative exploring “Creative Responses to Sustainability” led by Nina Witoszek at the University of Oslo’s Center for Environment and Development, an initiative to establish the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences, and the Graduate Program in Religion and Nature at the University of Florida.
